I have traveled to over 50 countries on seven continents, more than half of which were visited solo. I love traveling, being outdoors, and hiking. I hope to inspire others to travel and explore further, even if that means going alone.

Vacation buffets and poolside drinks can be tempting. However, it is still totally possible to eat healthy on vacation. All you need is a little thoughtful planning and self-control to remain healthy and continue indulging in new foods representing the location’s culture.
When I’m on the road, I incorporate the below meals into my daily routine. I always like to ensure I get a balance of healthy food, convenience, and cultural experience.
Breakfast is the one meal I will not skip unless I absolutely have to if, for example, I am running late. Unfortunately, some hotels have some pretty gross eggs that are not the most enjoyable. If there are hard-boiled eggs and/or yogurt, I will usually go for these instead. They tend to be a safer option. Either way, I always try to ensure I get enough protein in the mornings.
If your hotel offers a free buffet breakfast, take advantage of this and fill up as much as you can. Not only will you spend less money, but you will also be less tempted to eat unhealthy snacks while out exploring.
When time is an issue (which usually happens when I need to get up and out early) nothing beats the easiest option, a protein bar.
Lunchtime is more about balance for me. I don’t like to eat a carb-heavy meal and be too full to enjoy a culture-rich dinner. My go-to lunch options are usually high-protein sandwiches or wraps. If possible, I prefer to grab a cheaper, good wrap from a nearby grocery store.
One of the best experiences of a vacation is indulging in the location’s culture, and dinners are where I tend to find the most culture-rich meals.
By engaging in many physical activities throughout the day, I will have worked up my appetite to enjoy a full meal at the end of the day. Dinner is therefore the time for me to try new, more calorie-rich dishes. Unwinding at the end of the day with a tasty meal and a nice glass of wine can also be super relaxing.
For me, vacation is usually go-go-go. From sunrise to sunset, I’m exploring as much of the destination as possible, so snacking doesn’t really end up on my itinerary. I typically keep a protein bar in my bag just in case I get hungry though.
Try to avoid sugary drinks when you go on vacation. Instead, request something lighter like a skinny mescal margarita or your favorite white wine. You’ll feel lighter, less bloated, and less sluggish.
Overall, to eat healthy on vacation, I always incorporate a good amount of protein into my diet and a healthy balance of carbs.
